He Waka Eke Noa - Porirua

  • Porirua Women's Centre Whare Manaaki, Level 3, Pember House, 16 Hagley Street Porirua New Zealand (map)

Parenting is one of the most challenging and important jobs anyone can do, yet honest conversations about the many challenges and stresses we face can be rare - especially when a parent is struggling.

We have developed a support programme He Waka Eke Noa - We’re all in this together, to improve the wellbeing and resilience of parents by creating a strong peer support network that fosters long lasting community connections and friendships.

Together the group will explore their parenting experiences, strengths, values and challenges to collectively develop strategies to enhance their wellbeing.

Mā te mahi tahi, ka tutuki ai.  By working together, we can achieve our shared aspirations.

This six week programme will run on Thursdays for 2 hours (10:30 am-12:30 pm) from 28 October 2021 to 2 December 2021.

PLEASE NOTE: As this event is at a Women’s centre, we can only accept referrals for women or those identifying as female.

Access to Pember House is on Hagley Street next to Domino’s Pizza and the Porirua Women’s Centre is on level 3.

Kaiārahi/Lead Facilitator:  Teresa Hill has a background in addictions and perinatal counselling. Her passion for group work stems from her work experience with Greenstone Doors, CareNZ and Little Shadow.

Her practice is based on collaboration, focusing on relationships characterised by warmth, empathy and respect.

As a facilitator, she takes the dual role of imparting knowledge but also placing great value on tangata whaiora, bringing their own knowledge and lived experiences. She hopes to co-create safe spaces that are built on manaakitanga and mana motuhake.
