He Waka Eke Noa - Online via Zoom

  • Online via Zoom New Zealand (map)

We know sometimes it can be hard to get out of the house to attend a group session in person, so we are super excited to launch our online version of He Waka Eke Noa for all you busy parents out there.

This five week programme will run on Thursdays for 1 hour 10:00 am - 11:00 am starting on 9th of June 2022, all from the comfort of your own home. Group size is limited to 5 participants.

Kī hea/Where: At your place!

Ā hea/When: Thursdays 10:00 am - 11:00 am 9 June 2022 - 7 July 2022

Mō Wai/Who: Expectant parents and parents of babies and young infants

He aha te utu/cost: Free for parents

Here is what one Māmā had to say following the course:  “This program was awesome - so valuable! I have recommended it already to a few new mums. I liked that there was structure to each session but also time and space to go ad hoc and discuss other things! I feel blessed to have shared this time and space with a bunch of other cool mamas. I learned something at each session and have been able to apply it in my life at home and with my other relationships”.

If you would like to learn strategies to improve your wellbeing and resilience while connecting with other parents in the community, then click on the button below to register yourself. We would love you to join us online.

Additional information and conditions for our Online Group work:

SAFETY: These online sessions are not appropriate to help you if you are in crisis between sessions or have concerns about personal safety (for example: struggling with self-harm, feeling suicidal, or being in a physical space that is not safe). In such situations you should contact Te Haika on 0800 745 477 or call 111 to get urgent assistance.

CONNECTION ISSUES: Sometimes online sessions drop out. While we will try to reconnect, this may not be possible. It is important that you have a plan for how you can manage yourself in such an event, particularly if it happens at a vulnerable or emotional point. This may involve having someone else you trust that you can reach out to or having grounding exercises or self-soothing practices you can use.

FINANCIAL: Video calls use a lot of data. Make sure you can afford the data that our sessions will use and that you are not racking up unexpected expenses.

CONFIDENTIALITY: There are multiple rooms where this conversation is happening. It is important that the room you are in feels safe and is private for the whole session. This means that other people will not overhear what you say or walk-in unannounced. Then you can relax and share what is going on for you without having to be vigilant. We will take the same precautions at our end.

DATA SAFETY: We will be using an app called Zoom for the sessions, as it encrypts the data, which reduces the likelihood of someone else accessing it, but there is still a risk of it.

RECORDINGS: It is not appropriate for any participants to make recordings of these sessions without permission from all other participants.

STATE OF MIND: Just like face-to-face sessions, online sessions work best when you are alert, focussed, dressed, and ready to engage. We encourage you to put the same effort for preparing yourself for online sessions as you would if you were coming in to see us face-to-face. It is also important that your space is free from distractions, such as loud noise or other screens, that will divide your attention and prevent you from getting the most out of our time. We will do the same at our end.

MISCOMMUNICATIONS: Because we are not in the same room, there is an increased chance of miscommunication and misunderstanding. We encourage you to bring this up if you believe it has happened.

If you agree to participate in our online sessions you are indicating that you have understood the risks and limitations listed here and agreed to abide by the conditions we have laid out.
