Jody Burrell

Registered Arts Therapist, AThR, MACAT (Clinical) Hons, BA

Jody is a Mum to a little person. She has worked within mental health advocacy, mental health education, and more recently Arts Therapy for the past 8 years. Jody is a professional member of The Australian, New Zealand and Asian Creative Arts Therapies Association (ANZACATA).

Becoming a parent led Jody to explore her own identity and the constant shifts and changes called on her in her role as parent. Jody is passionate about how Arts Therapy supports her clients to move through stuckness. She finds working creatively allows the unspoken to come to the surface, whether that be exploring memories that overwhelm us, processing difficult or traumatic experiences, moving through grief or loss of self, or coming to terms with our own shifting, new or absent sense of self.

Jody explored her own experience of traumatic birth within her dissertation for her Masters. She has since developed a special interest in normalising and liberating the stories of those who have experienced trauma or challenge within the perinatal period and beyond.
